ICHD- 3 Diagnostic Criteria for a Medication-Overuse Headache (MOH)
-- Alternate names: rebound headache, drug-induced headache, medication-misuse headache
- Regular overuse for > 3 months of one or more drug that can be taken for acute and/or symptomatic treatment of a headache - Not better accounted for by another ICHD-3 diagnosis |

Key Clinical Features of a MOH:
- Episodic, periodic migraine or episodic tension-type headache
- Increasing usage of acute medications, including Triptans, simple analgesics (except plain aspirin), ergotamine tartrate derivatives, mixed analgesics (particularly containing barbiturate), possibly NSAID's
- Regular, reliable and predictable use of medication along with regular, reliable, and predictable development of a headache when medication is delayed, withheld or between doses
- Escalation in frequency of headache and medication usage
- Possible spontaneous improvement in headache with detoxification alone
